I recently caught up with Sean Woods and Michelle Challis (manager) out at their site in Moolap, Victoria. They own a LiuGong Loader 856II. Here’s what they had to say…

“We started off in Bin hire, then we went into recourse recovery, it was 10 years ago that we started go a bit deeper into it and start recovering materials like steel, concrete, bricks. I’ve been in this industry about 20 years and we’ve been on the site we’re on for about 6 years now so it’s only new.”
Michelle says, “We’ve been in this block for 6 years now, the first transfer station is 4 years old, and the second one we just put up this year because it just got too small for us.” I asked Sean if this was the only site he had… “Yeah this is our only sight – I don’t really want another one!”

The LiuGong loader is used everyday for loading our concrete products, soils, mulch, loading the crusher, loading waste at the transfer station… basically anything we can put the machine to. It’s loading very heavy concrete, construction demolition waste over at the transfer station, and we’re pretty impressed with it so far.

.The machine was used on the Geelong Bypass project, it was used to supply all of the mulch on the product, and we did another job where we crushed 9000 tonnes of concrete out there and we used the LiuGong to load it all up, it was working pretty much constantly for at least 10-12 hours per day”,
“That’s non- stop with just a lunch break” said Michelle.

“In the last few days it’s shifted 1500 tonnes of concrete products just out of the yard in 2 days and it’s going to another job tomorrow where there’s 6000 tonne of concrete that it’s got to crush and it’s going to be handling that as well, I’m sure it’ll do very well, it’s always kept up with all our other machines – The LiuGong loader works along side other machines including Volvo and JCB.The crusher produces about 160 tonne per hour and the machine’s capable of pulling that away constantly.” Said Sean

“Same with the screens, when we put the soil through the screens it keeps up with that as well” said Michelle.

I was looking at all different aspects of different machines when I was looking at buying one, and I had a look at all the other Chinese brands, but I just  kept going back to LiuGong, there’s a lot more engineering that’s gone into it, I couldn’t find any faults with it. Michelle went on to say “It works along side a JCB & a Volvo, Compared to the JCB, the LiuGong gets jobs done a lot quicker, it’s great.”

The componentary with the Cummins and the ZF and all the Hydraulics and the way it was built, I just couldn’t find this quality with other Chinese machines, especially for value too”. Said Sean
“And the service is excellent” added Michelle.

I think LiuGong as a brand in the earthmoving industry is going to be a big competitor against other brands in the next few years, you no, against Komatsu & Hyundai & Hitachi. I think LiuGong will give Caterpillar a run for their money too!.
